X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, is rolling out a new feature called Smart Cashtags, designed to provide users with live price data, charts, and detailed asset information. The feature, teased on January 11, 2026, is expected to see a wider release in February 2026. Smart Cashtags transform traditional '$TICKER' mentions into interactive cards, allowing users to access NEAR real-time prices and performance charts without leaving the app.

The update has sparked mixed reactions within the crypto community, with some praising its clarity and others cautioning about potential risks. The backend for on-chain tokens will operate almost in real-time, enabling newly launched tokens to appear swiftly in the feed. The feature will cover cryptocurrencies, stocks, and other tradable assets, offering precise asset tagging to reduce confusion.

Nikita Bier, X's head of product, emphasized the platform's role as a leading source for financial news, noting that hundreds of billions of dollars are deployed based on information shared there. Smart Cashtags aim to enhance this by allowing users to specify exact assets or smart contracts when posting tickers.
